Home Based Milking Mom

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Hi! I'm Emilyn, allow me to happily share with you being a first time mom particularly on my breastfeeding journey that made me decide to choose to work from home as a virtual assistant.

“Mothers are always, even in the worst moments, witnesses of tenderness, dedication and moral strength. To be a mother is a great treasure – Pope Francis

These words carried me through from the moment I got to know I am carrying my first baby up to my delivery and while she is growing. To name few, morning sickness, pain of delivery, and sleepless nights.

My adorable baby girl is 13 months old now. It has been 13 months that I am breastfeeding her. It was a personal choice. They say breast milk are ‘gold liquid’ even we often hear from a formula milk brand commercials, ‘Breast milk is the best for babies.’ But unfortunately, breastfeeding challenges are reality most moms are facing in different issues. There are lot of things going on my mind as a first time mom. Would you believe that during the first six months, there was this worry about a lump in my right breast. But thank God after weeks of consultation, it came out to be a clogged milk ducts. And with the right procedure of a specialists and continues breastfeeding it’s gone and totally nothing to worry.

I saw this how breast milk benefits my baby. She grows active, smart, and indeed healthy. Breastfeeding gives us a mom and daughter bonding, priceless indeed. I saw my how my child is dependent on me through the most important essential she needs. Her only food for the first six months, and still the food she demands even after introducing her to solid food. Could you imagine, whenever I go out and buy something, meet a friend, attend a social gathering, or every time I step out on our door, my time has a limit. She directly latch on me, I never thought it would be so hard to teach her feeding on a bottle. But even so, when I go out and took time, aside from my worry if her stomach is empty, my breast felt like it would burst because of the milk supply that wasn’t latch for few hours. Hard. Difficult. Painful. But, as I said, I it was a personal choice. At the end of the day, all are worth it.

So what do I realize through my Breastfeeding Journey?

To tell you a brief story, I am an independent woman. Worked overseas for almost 5 years away from my family living and providing on my own. Because of that, my husband and I agreed that being a mom and a wife won’t stop me from working. But you know as a mother, part of your dream was to be a hands on mom, spend more time with your family, and practically control your own income. Because of the benefit of breast milk to my daughter especially now that we are having a hard time due to Corona Virus outbreak, I want to continue direct latch breastfeeding to my daughter. Big question was how impossible to do both?
